I absolutely love making my own skincare products. I like to know exactly what is in my skin and hair care, so making my own products out of natural ingredients is the best way to do that. I can honestly say too, that making your own products is not only inexpensive, but works wonders. I used to make my own scrubs, salt sprays, body lotions, and face masks and sell them! Maybe someday I’ll start that up again and sell them to all of my followers?
As you can see from the title, these DIY recipes all are made with coconut oil which is by far my favorite DIY ingredient. It can be used for virtually anything and is such a powerhouse ingredient when it comes to skin and hair care. I hope you all enjoy these tips and make sure to comment with feedback or if you would like me to do more DIY Skincare posts!

DIY Conditioning Spray
1/4 cup coconut oil
1 tsp jojoba oil
1 tsp argan oil
10 drops essential oil (I like to use lime or lavender)
Melt the coconut oil in the microwave. Stir in the jojoba and argan oil. Take a small spray bottle and pour the oil mixture in. Fill the rest with coconut milk and add the essential oil. Place the cap back on and shake to mix. Store in the refrigerator to keep fresh and use as needed. I suggest using a small amount after a shower on damp hair, or before bed on dry hair expecting to shower the next morning.
DIY Deep Conditioning Hair Mask
2 tbsp plain yogurt
1 tbsp honey
1/4 tsp coconut oil (1/2 tsp for thicker hair)
Melt the coconut oil in a dish. Combine yogurt, honey, and coconut oil. Apply mixture from root to tip and massage into scalp for two minutes. Put a shower cap on to lock in moisture (a plastic grocery bag works just as well). Leave on for 15-20 minutes. Wash hair as normal, apply regular conditioner just to tips of hair. Do this treatment once a week during the winter to maintain a healthy shine.
DIY Coconut Oil Face Mask
1 tbsp coconut oil
2 tsps raw honey
1 tsp *fresh-squeezed* lemon (no store bought lemon juice!)
Melt the coconut oil in the microwave and add the honey and lemon juice. Mix together and apply a thick coat of the mixture onto a clean face. Keep the mask on for ten minutes and then rise off thoroughly.
DIY Shower Scrub
1 cup sea salt, sugar, or coffee grounds
- coffee grounds are good for treating stretch marks and cellulite. Using salt or sugar depends on how sensitive your skin is. For more sensitive skin use sugar.
1/2 cup oil
- can use coconut, jojoba, almond, olive, vitamin E, or argan; its up to you! You can also use up to three different oils in one scrub. My favorite combo is coconut, jojoba, and almond!
10 drops of essential oil
- again, you can use any scent you want. I really like to use lime essential oil when I use coconut oil because it smells like summer. If you’re using coffee grounds as your base no essential oils are needed.
Melt the oil if needed. Mix the base, oil, and essential oil in a bowl. Add more base or oil if you feel necessary. Scoop into a glass jar or plastic tupperware and store in the shower. Use all over your body and before you shave for smooth skin!
